Facebook Virus: Password Reset Confirmation
28 Oct 2009Today here at The Internet Group, we discovered a very serious threat to our client's personal data and also to their PC’s via a phishing email from a proclaimed Facebook account. Needless to say that we alerted our clients within 6 minutes of receiving this Email and avoided our clients from revealing their password information and also stopping their machines from becoming compromised through malware/spyware.
Below is the official release sent out by us today.
Today a new virus is spreading across social networking sites and this particular virus is being disguised as a Facebook “Password Reset Confirmation” email, known as Bredolab.
The email that you receive has an attachment that contains a new password. The file attached is actually a trojan horse that will apparently download a multitude of malicious files from the internet and consequently infect your computer leaving it vulnerable and unsecure.
To avoid any security threats to your computer do not open the email and delete the email. Facebook will only send a password confirmation if you have requested one, therefore if you do not request it then we suggest you delete anything you find suspicious.
If in doubt login to Facebook directly and check your credential details.
If your IT Company is not alerting you and your company to this information then are you really with a provider that is proactively protecting your data and your IT?
